Going Forward
•A key interaction is with the Global Mining Initiative - Mining Minerals Sustainable Development and its Australian partner AMEEF
•The next round of CRC nominations is expected towards the end of the year
•Two applications for Major National Research Facilities would strengthen the R&D capability: Sustainable Hydrometallurgy in Perth and Sustainable Energy in Newcastle
•CSIRO is re-organising itself to include the‘Sustainable Minerals and Energy Group’
•The CEO’s of six major minerals companies have engaged George Littlewood to review the capabilities of industry organisations to respond to the major challenges ahead, including sustainable development
•CSIRO is facilitating an exercise to galvanise a sector level response to the related issues of sustainability, competitiveness and image, and establish the national agenda
A workshop will be held in six months time to review all aspects of progress
The next six months will see a number of important parallel activities and initiatives develop which provide the opportunity to build synergy and alignment
To take the outcomes of this project forward most effectively means interacting closely and flexibly with all involved to find the optimum organisational forms
